8bitavatars asked: Isn't replacing characters like Peter Parker, Thor and Cap (who was just replaced a few years ago) just an excuse for lack of creativity? I feel like good writers should be able to tell interesting stories without resorting to tired gimmicks.
One person’s tired gimmick is another person’s interesting story.
How did you feel about SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, for example—both while it was going on and now that it’s over?
I hate when people say that changing a character is a gimmicks. These are characters that have existed for longer than many of the people reading them have been alive. Having someone else assume a hero’s mantel isn’t (always) a gimmick. It opens up a huge world of new possibilities and places to explore.
One of the things that I think is ruining mainstream comics is this idea that we cannot possibly mess with cannon. Fans demand new and interesting stories but whine whenever a creator tries something new.
This is a creative medium. Let it be creative.
